Steven Keating
Steven is a Shropshire-based artist who works mainly in oils and soft pastels. After his early art studies, the need to earn a living meant Steven trained and worked in the social work sphere, where he spent over 25 years. However, in the last ten years, he has been able to return to his first love, painting.
Steven adopts a contemporary, loose style, frequently working on a large scale. He particularly enjoys using colour, often employing the pure pigment to achieve a high degree of vibrancy and impact.
He says: "My work is based on a highly instinctive and emotional response to the subject, with the aim of capturing the subjective vision held in my mind".
Steven's work has built up a loyal, local following. More recently, he has achieved national recognition with his painting "Swans" being short-listed for the "Artists & Illustrators" Artist of the Year 2015 and winning the OCAD award. The work was exhibited at London's Mall Galleries in February 2016.
