Julia Wager said "Horses have been an integral part of my life from an early age, my family having been involved on a recreational level with both hunting and racing. My late paternal Grandmother was an accomplished horsewoman and also an artist. Portraying horses in my art has therefore been a natural progression.

My Grandmothers collection of French Animalier bronzes have proven to be a long standing influence and it was here I first became familiar with the work of Mene (1810- 1877) Bayre (1796-1875) and Moigniez (1835-1894) and her numerous horse paintings including the work of Cecil Aldin. Later when I attended Cheltenham Art School I studied Fine Art and foundry practice and worked alongside fellow students Rungwe Kingdon and Claude Koenig who where later to establish Pangolin Editions Fine Art Foundry of Gloucestershire where I have my sculpture cast.

Regarding painting Alfred de Dreux (1800-1850) and Delacroix (1798-1863) have impressed and influenced my composition. I propose my sculpture to be a contemporary interpretation of this fascinating period and where patination has been very important to my objectives and direction. I search for a basic realism and expressive element within my composition of this much loved and revered animal.

I have exhibited in numerous group shows since leaving Cheltenham Art School, more recently with the Society of Equestrian Artists and The Emile Faurie Foundation."
